Who would have thought? From an article I wrote in August, I predicted that things would go well with Brett Favre and the Vikings. The big test will be today to see if they can handle the Cowboys.

Without taking sides, I believe the "take our country back" is moto is base on a few concepts that put together imply that the current direction is in conflict with American ideals. If you'd rather discuss those "one at a time" - I'm sure somebody will.

1. The US is founded on "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" as a core value. It is part of our founding documents and we quote it frequently. Liberty is that ability to make choices for yourself. Good or bad... The connection to the "take our country back" is the perception the government is involving itself in deciding things outside of its designed scope of power. Such as people's health care, owning huge stakes in American industries and banking, etc... Not making a value judgement here, just telling you what I hear when I stop to LISTEN.

2. I understand from reading opinions that some citizens believe that the President is making some of these decisions based on what is best for his political powerbase such as SEIU, AFL-CIO, trial lawyers - etc... I find this very similar to the feelings people had about Bush/Cheney and Haliburton. I'm not sure how any President avoids it. You align yourselt with people of like thinking, so when you get into office and execute your values - it tends to favor those that think like you. Seems to be a pitfall of the position.

I am not offering that any of this is right or wrong, I basically think your blog post is a bait for finding somebody to argue with... We are great at arguing, protesting and demanding. It will probably destroy the country one day. Linclon said "No power in the world could rest in Applications or drink from the Ohio, our own internal striff is the only true danger to America" (well, it is a paraphrase - but it is close). I'm still looking for the person that will lead us back to the values of Jefferson, Adams and Madison - a family of people working to find reasonable compromise as friends, and move forward.

Sticking to a particular issues as this article suggests is the way to intelligently make a point. Using blanket statements, such as the one that is this post's topic, obscures any point in xenophobic, racist, and sexist coded language. A blanket statement could mean that you want to go back to the times of internment camps, disenfranchisement of women, and the sickening time when African Americans were property. I really don't think this is about party ideals or Constitutional ideals but the level of rhetoric and discourse in our country.

I am in agreement with the gentleman above. There are too many handouts going to people that aren't working or don't have a legal means of income.
These people use grants and welfare to support drug trafficking and legal weapons.

Rich,

I agree that Brett's lack of decision making ability has tarnished his reputation somewhat, but he makes the Vikings a better team. NFL football is about the "right now." If the Vikings don't do well this year, Brad Childress is gone. He knew that. He knows that he has to do something this year. If you were in the same shoes, would you go with the young QB or the Hall of Famer? Looking to Favre for Childress is looking to the future. With all those weapons, Brett will do well this year. The key is going to be what happens around week 13; that's normally when Brett starts to fade. Is he going to worry about his "Iron Man" streak or is he going to get some rest to prepare for Jan and Feb?

I agree, there is no substitute for skill and experience. I completely disagree that the Packers did Favre wrong, quite the opposite actually. Favre strung the Packers along for quite a long time with 'maybe I'll play, maybe I won't play.' These games were what really pushed into Packers into committing to Aaron Rodgers. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest QBs ever but his complete lack of decision making ability is tarnishing his reputation. He does not represent any type of longterm solution for any team that he plays for. Looking to Favre is looking to the past when teams would be better served to look to the future.
